Meal Prep!

Image
I work every weekend and I do not like the cafeteria food at Duke.  It’s expensive and it’s not tasty!  I get up at 4:30 and normally don’t get home until around 8:15 at night.  I’m exhausted and just want to shower and sit on the couch for few minutes before I hit the hay. So on Fridays, I meal prep.  I make breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  I try to scoff down breakfast and dinner quickly but almost always take my 30 for lunch.  I don’t spend a ton of time on Fridays doing this but it is so helpful for my work weekend. They are ready to just grab and go!  So much healthier than eating the junk at the cafeteria and I don’t have to spend time at night or in the morning making something ❤️

Today didn’t start out as planned.  I don’t think much in my life turns out as planned πŸ˜‚ I woke up to a lad in a tizzy at precisely 5:30 am.  Ouch!  He was having difficulty last night uploading something for school (and this old mom was no help) so he woke up early to see if his teacher has emailed yet.  He was terribly disappointed and quite pissed that he had not yet received a response.  It took me a while to calm him down.  It was rainy and yucky out and quite frankly I just wanted to go back to bed.  I waited until he had a break in class and made him do some yoga with me today.  I think we both needed it.  I always try to get him to do deep breathes when he gets all worked up and today I think the yoga helped.  The calming music and the mindfulness helped him.  Until...he found out his 4th period was cancelled due to weather and he wouldn’t be able to speak to said teacher.  Oy!  Here we went again.  Luc...

Whew!

What a day.  My son had no school today due to Veterans Day so I needed to get him out of the house.  We ran errands this morning where he helped me pick all the fruits and veggies I am going to try and incorporate more into my diet.  When we got home we took a nice walk through the neighborhood but it wasn’t as long as I would have liked.  My son hates the rain and he was scared we were going to get rained on.we came home and both settled in on doing homework.  I’m in the assessment class and I am not a fan.  It stresses me out.  It shuts down my computer about every 10 minutes and sends me into panic mode. I finally got about halfway through and realized I needed a stress break.  I wanted more steps today so I remembered the videos my step mom had years ago. YouTube to the rescue!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enYITYwvPAQ I even learned some technology today as my son showed me how to get it on the tv πŸ˜‚ It’s only 30 minutes, but w...

First of all I have to say that my legs are rump are sore.  It’s a good sore though.  Not the kinda sore I occasionally wake up with from body aches. I have been using these bands: I got them off of Amazon to use when COVID first hit and they stayed in the package.  I only paid $7.00 for the entire set so I was trying not to sweat too much about not using them.  I have been using them every two days to work on my thighs and butt.  I am not very coordinated so there was just a slight leaning curve so that I wouldn’t injure myself.  You can feel the burn after a couple sets of reps.  Of course, these are muscles that I haven’t strengthened in sometime so I definitely feel the burn. Another goal I’ve had is to drink more water when I am home.I have found that if I have something I can see that it makes it easier for me to achieve this goal.  This water bottle has done just that.  2 of these buggers and I have my water intake for the day. ...

Mental Health Days!

I went on a girls trip this weekend to celebrate my birthday.  We went to Oak Island beach and had an amazing time.  I did manage to gets walks in everyday πŸƒπŸ½‍♀️  There is something just so relaxing about walking on the beach.  We would get up and have our coffee and then I forced them to join me on my walks.  It was my birthday weekend, after all πŸ˜‚ I did not take many photos of the weekend because girls trips are for connecting with friends and putting the electronics away!  However, my friends did surprise me with a massage.  It was fabulous.  I normally would get about 2 massages a month for my well being but I have not been since COVID.  Meet James!  I would highly recommend him if you ever get to Oak Island. I really do have the bestest friends ever!!  The weather was perfect to get outside and enjoy the beach! I love this friend group.  I just happened to meet them all in nursing school.  It’s so nice that w...

Feeling Old

My little boy turns 16 today!  Oh where has the time gone.  It is always a reminder of my age when his birthday rolls around.  I’m not afraid of getting older but the aches that come with it can surely remind me that I am indeed aging πŸ˜‚. I spent the majority of yesterday on the couch trying to get homework done for my upcoming birthday trip to the beach.  I was definitely achy this morning as I rolled out of bed. I found this video when doing our last assignment and I like that it is short and simple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaoV1PrYft4 I did it this morning and will more than likely do it again tonight.  It gives me a good stretch and actually kinda relaxes me.  I bought a yoga dvd a while back and tried it a few times he always gave it up.  I like this short video because it truly is for beginners and is short in length so I can pull it up easily and get a quick stretch and relax time in ❤️
